JUPEB is a National Examination body saddled with the responsibility of conducting examinations for students, who have undergone approved subject combinations and are seeking Direct Entry admissions into Nigerian and partnering foreign tertiary institutions. It is a new Advanced Level examination body recently established and coordinated by the University of Lagos. Basically, the programme is similar to the Interim Joint matriculation Board (JUPEB) coordinated by Ahmadu Bello University and recognized by many universities in Northern Nigeria. JUPEB is, as at now, recognized by Federal universities in Southern Nigeria such as University of Lagos (Unilag), University of Nigeria Nsukka, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife (OAU), Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), University of Ilorin, Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), University of Port Harcourt, University of Calabar, and many more.
Meanwhile, the affiliated institutions have set up programmes to train candidates on the syllabus of the Board in subjects relevant to course intended to study. For example, Physics/Chemistry/Biology for medical courses, physics/chemistry/mathematics for engineering courses, etc. The charges for the programme vary from institution to institution. The actual charges for the programme can be obtained at the website of the institution or through an inquiry at the institution.
The Programme leads to the award of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) Certificate which enables candidates to gain Direct Entry Admission into 200 level of the degrees offered by the University of Lagos and other JUPEB-affiliated Universities in Nigeria and universities abroad. The JUPEB Certificate is equivalent to the Advance Level GCE or the Old Higher School Certificate (HSC) or JUPEB.
To be eligible to take examinations leading to the award of JUPEB’s Direct Entry Certificates, the candidate must have been exposed to an intensive scheme of academic work relevant to his/her proposed university course.
Candidates’ grades and points in the final examination are calculated thus: A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1, F = 0. (A point is added to a candidate whose result is devoid of an F grade).
For example, a student who gets a C grade in all three subjects entered for has a point calculated thus; CCC = 3 + 3 + 3 + 1 = 10pts.
Maximum point = AAA in your three subject courses = 15 + 1 = 16pts. Please confirm this in the UME/DE brochure.
Candidates seeking admission into the JUPEB Foundation Programmes must possess minimum of 5 credit passes in at least five (5) subjects at O’Level, including English language and Mathematics at not more than 2 sittings in the GCE, SSCE (WAEC, NECO, NABTEB). JUPEB is a federal government program that is being supervised by University of lagos. It is an advanced level programme that offers admission into 200L without UTME or PUTME via Direct Entry. It is accepted by 75% of all Nigerian Universities and quoted on JAMB brochure.
The Programme is certified by the Nigeria University Commission (NUC). See page 4 of the JAMB brochure, item 2.2(2) to confirm JUPEB as a requirement for university admission via Direct Entry. Also see Direct entry for universities.
Very few students know about the JUPEB programme as an alternative means of securing admission. Every year less than 20,000 students registered for the JUPEB programme as against 1.5 million students of JAMB. Thus the possibility of gaining admission via JUPEB is very high
Candidates seeking admission into the JUPEB programme must possess the following;

JAMB personnel’s scrutinizes the submitted form and forward the names of qualified candidates to their respective choice of universities for admission into 200L via Direct entry. It is like the Higher School certificate of the 1970s.
N/B: JUPEB result is an equivalent of the National Diploma certificate of any Polytechnic

The JUPEB programme is run at our study centre location within your proximity.
PLEASE NOTE, for information on studying fees kindly refer to our Programme fees N/B: Fees are payable in instalments.
Students of the JUPEB programme offer just three (3) subjects that are relevant to their proposed courses of study in the University. Example: A student of medicine offers just Biology, Chemistry and Physics; A student of Law; C.R.S, Government and Literature in English.
The JUPEB programme is not difficult to pass if well taught. However it requires a great deal of concentration, hardwork and dedication on the part of the student.
